Yafen Field, Wish-Granting Volunteer
After ten years of service as a Make-A-Wish volunteer, Yafen Field has brought hope, strength and joy into the lives of many children and families through the magic of wish granting.
Her constant support and dedication is not only inspiring to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the children and families we serve, but also to her place of employment. Yafen was recently awarded with the Wells Fargo S.E.E.D. Volunteer Service Award in honor of her work with the Foundation.
We recently sat down with Yafen to talk about her volunteer experiences and how they have impacted her life.
Q: What lessons have you learned from your Make-A-Wish volunteer experiences?
A: First and foremost, my volunteer experience has taught me to be grateful. The strength and courage of all my wish kids remind me daily to "not sweat the small stuff." I have come to realize that there are many generous and caring people in this world willing to help those in need.
Q: What is one wish you have worked on which really stands out to you? Why?
A: Elise made a selfless wish to restore a Katrina-damaged daycare in Mississippi. The wish was memorable because of Elise's philanthropic spirit and the positive rippling effect it had on many other children.
Q: What are three words that describe your time and experience with Make-A-Wish?
A: Rewarding, humbling, and magical!
Make-A-Wish is honored to have Yafen as part of our volunteer family and thanks her for her generosity, compassion and dedication to our wish kids. If you would like to become a volunteer, please join us at one of our upcoming volunteer trainings or contact Jeni Miller.
