I Wish to Be... a Pilot in the Skies
Ian has always had an incredible fascination with airplanes, especially military planes, so his wish was to be a pilot for a day. Outfitted in his own custom-made flight suit and jacket, the four-year-old enjoyed an unforgettable day rubbing elbows with many real-life pilots at McChord Air Force Base.
McChord’s 8th Airlift Squadron hosted Ian and his family, and the Airlift’s executive officer lead Ian through his adventure including a tour of the base, time in an aircraft simulator, and even a tour of a C-17 Globemaster III, the Air Force’s newest airlift aircraft. During the day’s events, Ian was presented with coins from several base units as well as patches including a "Wild Child" patch – Ian’s call sign.
Ian’s wish was made possible by McChord’s Pilot-For-A-Day program, designed to create a special day for young people who receive long-term care for life-threatening illnesses.
